Welcome to the conference! We are very excited to come close to the conference start.

Once you are in Västerås, please view on the map where hotels and the conference venue are (Map of Västerås). It is very exciting to see the time of the conference is approaching, and that so many have registered to the conference by now!

News by May 30: The final session plan is set, and in dialogue with track organisers, we are about to finalize the sessions of individual tracks. You should expect to hear from your track organisers by the beginning of next week, a few working days before the conference start, when your presentation will be. Map of Västerås town.

News by May 21: Please note May 24 is the final date to be included in the abstract book. To ensure this, please register to the conference. Minor changes to the final track session plan have been undertaken (tracks 11 and 17 have been moved somewhat).

News by May 16: If your abstract has been accepted, please make sure to register before May 24, to be included in the ISBN coded abstract book. Final overall conference program is set. A detailed session plan for individual tracks is provided as a PDF file.

ICA (web)

News by April 15: The conference is now open for one-day registrations. Please contact the chair of the conference registration office, Ms. Lotta Orrholm at lotta.orrholm@acc.se.

Information by April 10: There are no central guidelines for how papers should be written in terms of formalities, length, reference systems etc. Also, there are no central guidelines for when full papers should be finalized and the way full papers should be distributed. Such standards are set by track organisers.

You can participate by submitting abstracts to organised conference tracks, and you can suggest to organise an own track to invite scholars to focus on a particular topic not yet suggested. Moreover, you can register to the conference and listen in to the tracks and papers of your choice. There are many highly interesting tracks organised by a number of leading scholars around the world (see http://www.eki.mdh.se/sdconf07/tracks.shtml ).

We proudly welcome you to the 13 th Annual International Sustainable Development Research Conference to be held in Västerås, Sweden, June 10-12, 2007. We have decided to extend the deadline for abstract submission until March 16th, 2007 because of
a) some very important recent contributions (please see below) and
b) the urgency of the global matter at hand, e.g. fresh reports on climate change, melting glaciers and expanding deserts etc.

Key note highlights today include:
- Minna Halme
- Tarja Ketola
- Charles Hopkins
- Don Huisingh
- Karl-Henrik Robért
- Nigel Roome
- Richard Welford
- Tord Kjellström

Our ambition is to make the 13th Annual International Sustainable Development Research Conference a truly sustainable event! We will:
- serve organic food, if possible from regional providers;
- throughout the sessions serve water in jugs instead of bottled or canned mineral water, and serve fruit instead of biscuits;
- on behalf of our participants, purchase emission permits of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme equal to the emissoins created by the participants travel, to help reduce the total number of of emission permits of the EUETS
- organise a film festival on sustainability, with discussions immediately afterwards, on Tuesday night, June 12 th , for those scholars who plan to stay the night for starting their trips home by Wednesday (planned movies include för instance: Surplus, Darwin's Nightmare, An Inconvenient Truth, Who Killed the Electric Car?)

By participating in this conference, you will help increase the awareness among conference organisers to start getting sustainable in the way we organise these events!

After the two previous successful events, the 11 th Annual in Helsinki (2005) with about 400 participants and the 12 th Annual in Hong Kong (2006) with about 300 participants we are back in Europe for 2007, in Västerås, Sweden. The conference venue at Mälardalen University in Västerås was chosen because it is the first university in Europe with an ISO 14001 certification. A city with 130.000 inhabitants, the venue also suggests that small and midsized towns and regions are just as important in the worldwide quest for sustainable development as giant metropolitan cities and regions are.

We are also proud to say that the registration fee also covers a one year membership in the International Sustainable Development Research Society-ISDRS ( www.isdrs.org ), including a one year subscription, with six issues a year, of the academic journal Sustainable Development . ISDRS will develop into an important portal for sustainable development and will actively work to promote research and practice of sustainable development, based on its Annual International Sustainable Development Research Conference!
